If you really want to be successful, you need to set goals. Do you have business tasks you wish to achieve? Are you setting goals so you can make your dreams a reality?
If you said “no” you’re not alone. Many of us continue to search for success without setting goals while not realizing we are missing the key ingredient for our success. There are three key steps to setting and achieving your goals:
- Knowing what your goals are
- Deciding how to reach your goals
- Taking action to achieve your goals
Step 1
The first step is knowing what your goals are and getting them on paper. Start out by making a list of all the goals you wish to reach. When writing your goals, remember to be specific and set a time limit. Keep similar goals grouped together. Don’t just set long-term goals; you should also set short-term goals. Setting short-term goals will help you to see progress and keep you motivated.
Once you have your list, go ahead and prioritize them. Don’t get discouraged if your list is long. Pick your first five goals then when you finish one, just add the next from your list.
Step 2
The second step is to decide how you’ll achieve these goals. Make a commitment with yourself to work on those goals. You’ll also find that sharing your plans with others will keep you on task!
Step 3
The third step is to schedule your time to take action on those goals. Will you schedule time weekly? Will you schedule time monthly? Does your goal involve dates determined by someone else, like taking a class?
Scheduling time will become routine once you get started, and before you know it you’ll be well on your way to success!
By setting and achieving goals, you will feel a sense of achievement, and keep you motivated as well as challenged.
You don’t have to wait until the New Year to set your goals. Why not start now and see the progress you can make between now and then? I bet you’ll be surprised
